ITEM ORIGINAL TITLE: Nova Africae Tabula Auctore Jodoco Hondio - Hondius.

Amsterdam: 1606. 50x38. Very Good coloured, discoloration and minor paper thinness along centre fold. Paper browned with small marginal dark stains on upper corners. Restored split lower part center fold, not attaining the engraved area. Overall good condition. Was based on Mercator but the coastline particularly of Madagascar, was considerabily altered. Jodocus also made improvements in the Cape area. Presents a large handsome title cartouche and interlacing strap design, with a monkey's head at the top. Native craft, 4 ships, 3 sea monsters and 2 animals inland are expertly engraved, with particularly decorative and caligraphy of the central west coast of the continent.
