Dos volumenes ( de los seis de los que constaba esta edicion de Leipsick de 1780 ) de Système de la Nature , la emblematica y polemica obra publicada por primera vez en 1770 por el filósofo materialista francés de origen alemán, Baron d´Holbach, Paul Henry Thiery (1723-89) uno de los colaboradores de la Enciclopedia e ilustrado. Esta obra fue estrcitamente prohibida en su epoca por la autoridades. Facilmente puede encontrar multitud de detalles sobre la importancia de esta obra en internet. Varios ejemplares de la primera edicion, en dos volumenes aparecida en 1770, suele cotizarse aproximadamente entre 3.500 y 12.000 euros en los principales librerias anticuarias europeas.
Repetimos que estos dos volumenes en subasta son los tomos tercero y cuarto de los 6 de que consta la edicion de Leipsick de 1780. Los otros 4 tomos estan desaparecidos. Estan impresos en pequeño formato ( 13.5 cm x 9 cm ) y tienen 161 y 212 paginas respectivamente, mas indices. Estan encuadernados en piel.

Fue uno de los colaboradores de la Encyclopédie, en la cual colaboró con conceptos de química, metalurgia y geología. Era partidario de la Ilustración y amigos de varios otros filósofos, entre los que se encontraban Rousseau, el Barón von Grimm, o Buffon. Estos se reunían en su casa para comer dos veces por semana en la llamada La coterie holbachique (La camarilla de Holbach), reuniones de salón en casa de d'Holbach presididas por Diderot, a las cual también se le unían aquellos extranjeros famosos que pasaran por la ciudad, como Adam Smith o David Hume.
Su opera prima fue Système de la Nature, la cual fue publicada bajo el seudónimo de Jean-Baptiste de Mirabaud e incluida en el índice de libros prohibidos. Durante ésta se muestra a sí mismo como un materialista radical, ateo decidido, poco original, y sin embargo, muy influido por Hobbes, Locke, Condillac y La Mettrie. Además, dice que la materia posee movimiento y hasta capacidad de pensamiento. Cree que el hombre es sólo un ser natural, y por lo tanto, físico, que está sometido a las mismas leyes materiales que el resto del universo. También cree que una voluntad libre no puede ser admitida en este universo que se rige por la necesidad; que la sensibilidad es característica sólo de una materia en especial (la animal) y que el alma como principio vital inmaterial no existe.

Two volumes ( from the six of which this edition of 1780 Leipsic had) of the Système de la Nature, the emblematic and controversial book first published in 1770 by the French materialist philosopher of German origin, Baron d'Holbach, Paul Henry Thiery (1723-1789) one of the contributors to the Encyclopedia and illustrated. This work was estrictly banned in his time by the authorities.
You can easily find many details about the importance of this work on the Internet. Several copies of the first edition, in two volumes published in 1770, is often quoted approximately between 3,500 and 12,000 euros in major European antiquarian bookstores.
We repeat thst these two volumes on auction are the third and fourth volumes of the 6 that make up the 1780 edition of Leipsic. The other 4 volumes are missing. They are printed in small format (13.5 cm x 9 cm) and have 161 and 212 pages respectively, plus indexes. They are bound in leather.

He was one of the contributors to the Encyclopédie, which collaborated with concepts of chemistry, metallurgy and geology. He was a supporter of the Enlightenment and friends several other philosophers, among whom were Rousseau, Baron von Grimm, or Buffon. They would gather at his house to eat twice a week in the call The coterie holbachique (The Clique Holbach), living at home meetings of d'Holbach chaired by Diderot, to which also joined him to pass those famous foreign through the city, as Adam Smith and David Hume.
His debut film was Système de la Nature, which was published under the pseudonym of Jean-Baptiste de Mirabaud and included in the index of forbidden books. During this shown himself as a radical materialist, atheist decided, unoriginal, and yet very influenced by Hobbes, Locke, Condillac and La Mettrie.
