Descripción: - Primitivo Planímetro Polar de Escala Fija, con dos brazos articulados y su mecanismo de medida, fabricado a mediados del S.XIX. - Este Planímetro es uno de los primeros que se fabricaron, probablemente antes de los realizados por el Suizo Jakob Amsler-Laffon en 1854. - No tiene Marca ni Inscripción que lo identifique, aunque en la tapa de la caja de madera, a la que le falta la piel que la tapizaba, se puede ver estampada la siguiente Inscripción “The Ashcroft Manufacturing Co.”. - La fábrica Ashcrof empezó a fabricar alrededor del Año 1852, fecha que no se conoce con exactitud. por lo que este Planímetro podría ser de los primeros instrumentos que fabricara la firma Ashcrof. lo que nos induce a que podría estar fabricado a finales de la Primera Mitad del S.XIX. - El Brazo de Extremo Fijo tiene una aguja de punta muy fina, con el fin de minimizar el daño al papel. Esta aguja se clava y se queda fija en un punto, para lo que se ayuda con un pequeño peso sobre ella. En el extremo opuesto se sitúa la articulación con el otro Brazo de Extremo Móvil. - En el Brazo de Extremo Móvil tiene una aguja de punta roma, con el fin de que se pueda deslizar por el perímetro de la superficie a calcular, para lo que se sujeta el antedicho extremo con los dedos, mediante una diminuta espiga o astil. En el extremo opuesto se sitúa la articulación con el otro Brazo de Extremo Fijo. - El Mecanismo de Medida con su Escala está sostenido por el Brazo de Extremo Móvil, y se sitúa entre ambos Brazos junto a la articulación. - El Brazo de Extremo Móvil, junto a la base de apoyo del eje que soporta el Anillo móvil de Medida, tiene grabado el número “5212”. - Dispone de la Caja original, que es de madera forrada de una piel morada muy fina por el exterior y de terciopelo morado en su interior. Está en muy mal estado, por lo que necesita restauración. En la tapa tiene impresa la Marca del Fabricante. - En la Placa de aluminio, que está claveteada a la caja, tiene grabada la inscripción “ME H 688”. - No hemos podido sacar ningún dato en base a las inscripciones que hay en el Brazo del Planímetro y en la Placa de su Caja. Conservación y desperfectos: - El Planímetro se encuentra en perfecto estado, con la excepción de que no se conserva la pesa cilíndrica, siendo muy factible la fabricación de una nueva de latón, ya que se conserva el sitio dentro de la caja en la que se guardaba la pesa. - La caja está rota por varias partes, conservándose el cierre en buen estado y su estructura general, por lo que su restauración no generaría mayores problemas. Comentarios: - Tanto las Medidas, como el Peso, son aproximados. - Es muy raro de encontrar, ya que es de los primeros Planímetros que se fabricaron. - Que el Objeto tenga algún Distintivo, Marca o Contraste, es de gran importancia para poder identificar datos como su autor, el sitio donde se fabricó y otros destalles. - Muy interesante como pieza de colección y elemento decorativo. - El Objeto presenta el desgaste propio de su tiempo. - Debido a que es inevitable las diferencias de tonalidades entre fotos y realidad, se debe tener presente que los tonos de los colores de las fotos no son exactamente iguales a los tonos de los colores reales. - El Objeto en venta es el que se corresponde con las fotos, que a su vez se complementan en esta Descripción, con el objetivo de proporcionar un mejor conocimiento del Objeto, y nunca ser una exposición detallada del mismo. - Los datos aquí facilitados son opiniones personales no contrastadas. Description: - Primitive Fixed Scale Polar Planimeter, with two articulated arms and its measurement mechanism, manufactured in the mid 19th century. - This planimeter is one of the first to be made, probably before those made by the Swiss Jakob Amsler-Laffon in 1854. - It has no mark or inscription that identifies it, although on the lid of the wooden box, which is missing the leather that covered it, the following inscription can be seen: "The Ashcroft Manufacturing Co. - The Ashcrof factory began to manufacture around 1852, a date that is not known exactly, so this planimeter could be one of the first instruments manufactured by the Ashcrof firm, which leads us to believe that it could have been manufactured at the end of the first half of the 19th century. - The Fixed End Arm has a very fine point needle, in order to minimise damage to the paper. This needle is stuck and remains fixed in one point, for which it is helped with a small weight on it. At the opposite end is the joint with the other Movable End Arm. - The Movable End Arm has a blunt needle, so that it can be slid around the perimeter of the surface to be calculated, for which purpose the above-mentioned end is held with the fingers, by means of a tiny pin or shaft. At the opposite end is the joint with the other Fixed End Arm. - The Measuring Mechanism with its scale is held by the Movable End Arm, and is placed between both Arms next to the joint. - The Movable End Arm, next to the support base of the shaft supporting the Movable Measurement Ring, is engraved with the number "5212". - It has the original Box, which is made of wood covered with a very fine purple leather on the outside and purple velvet on the inside. It is in very bad condition, so it needs restoration. The cover has the manufacturer's brand printed on it. - The aluminium plate, which is nailed to the box, has the inscription "ME H 688" engraved on it. - We have not been able to extract any data based on the inscriptions on the Planimeter Arm and the Box Plate.
