With Beat, King Crimson presented their ninth studio album—a work that impressively demonstrates the band's innovative power in the early 1980s.

After their successful comeback with Discipline (1981), Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, and Bill Bruford continued their musical journey of discovery, combining progressive rock, new wave, and complex polyrhythms to create a fascinating soundscape.

The album title Beat is a tribute to the literary “Beat Generation” around Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg – and this source of inspiration runs like a thread through the lyrics and atmosphere. The sound is dominated by a crystal-clear, modern sound: Adrian Belew's guitar and vocal artistry meets Fripp's unmistakable guitar weave, Tony Levin's Chapman Stick provides powerful depth, while Bill Bruford's percussive sophistication ensures rhythmic complexity.

Tracks such as “Neal and Jack and Me,” “Heartbeat,” and “Sartori in Tangier” showcase the band's blend of catchiness and experimentation, melodic rock and avant-garde sound collages. Beat is still considered a key album from King Crimson's 80s phase – powerful, virtuosic, and yet surprisingly accessible.
