La compañía Polygram ltd, bajo su sello Mercury Records decide editar el primer disco de TEXAS , titulado Southside. Aunque el grupo ya había realizado años atrás alguna que otra actuación en la universidad de su ciudad, este primer disco de la banda que apareció en 1991, alcanzo 1.600.000 copias en todo el mundo y la critica lo catalogo de ser uno de los mejores álbumes del momento, ya que era una mezcla de varios estilos entre los que estaban el soul, blues, country y sobre todo el rock. Con el tema I don't want a lover, consiguieron situarse en lo mas alto de muchas de listas en todo el mundo,considerándolo como el mejor single del grupo. Pero el resto de los temas de este disco, también son muy buenos como por ejemplo: Fight the feeling, Tell me why, Prayer for you.

Sharleen Spitteri con apenas 22 años y con una interpretación vocal impactante se convirtió rápidamente en todo un ídolo para muchas jóvenes que empezaban en el tema de la música.

Southside is the debut album of the Scottish rock band Texas. It was released on 13 March 1989, and peaked at no. 3 in the UK. Within three weeks of release, the album was certified Gold by the British Phonographic Industry for sales in excess of 100,000 copies.

The album's first single "I Don't Want a Lover" was released in January 1989 and peaked at no. 8 in the UK. Following the release of the album in March, which entered the UK Album Chart at no.3, further singles from the album were less successful. The second single, "Thrill Has Gone", peaked at no. 60, while a third single, "Everyday Now", fared little better at no. 44. Despite this, a fourth single, "Prayer for You", was released in November but stalled at no. 73 in the UK. Despite only one hit single, the album spent 29 weeks on the charts. The album cover art was derived from the poster art for the film Paris, Texas, which inspired the band name.
