Good copy. First edition of one of the two memoirs composed by Chateaubriand for the defense of the Duchess of Berry, and it is by far the less common.

It is about the donation given by the Duchess of Berry to the Prefect of the Seine in favor of the patients of the cholera epidemic, the writer had served as an intermediary and had the sum himself remitted to Count Pierre-Marie Taillepied de Bondy ( 1766-1847, the immediate predecessor of Rambuteau). But the prefect found himself obliged to refuse the sum, to avoid bad press. Chateaubriand then addressed himself directly to each of the mayors of the arrondissement (there were still only twelve) to give them each one thousand francs.
