He was a participant in the revolutionary student movement ""Generation of '28"". He was a prominent figure in Venezuelan literature, with works dedicated to the social and political problems of the country's history. He was a long-time publisher of the major newspaper ""Nacional"". On August 8, 1937, he was one of the 17 delegates who participated in the First National Conference of the Communist Party of Venezuela. In 1979, he received the Lenin Peace Prize from the Soviet Union, a Soviet award equivalent to the Nobel Peace Prize. He left an extensive literary legacy, from plays to poetry, which earned the admiration of well-known authors such as Pablo Neruda and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. SKUZLO000302"
