Se condecora al teniente Walter Kühne de la 44 División de infantería de la Wehrmacht, con la Cruz de Hierro de 2ª Clase el día 5 de Abril de 1942, por los méritos conseguidos en la toma de la ciudad de Jarkov y defensa de la línea del rio Donest, rechazando la 44 División 142 ataques rusos.

La 44 División de Infantería, fue prácticamente aniquilada en Enero de 1943 en el frente de Stalingrado.

Lieutenant Walter Kühne of the 44th Infantry Division of the Wehrmacht is awarded the 2nd Class Iron Cross on April 5, 1942, for the merits achieved in taking the city of Kharkov and defending the line of the Donest river, rejecting the 44th Division 142 Russian attacks. The 44th Infantry Division was practically annihilated in January 1943 on the Stalingrad front.
